Online Lessons – Register from anywhere in the world. Online lessons are available for mandolin, mandola, mandocello, octave mandolin and Irish bouzouki, violin, viola, electric bass, and guitar.
Hello! My name is Adam Sweet. I’m the owner of Sweet Music. I teach violin, viola, mandolin, guitar, Irish bouzouki and electric bass online using Slack. Slack is a messenger platform that works great. All you need is a laptop, Google Chrome and a webcam. I recommend you get a decent microphone separate from the one in your laptop, I like the Blue Snowball. You can get it on Amazon.com.
I have been teaching music since the 1980s. I work with all ages, but most of my students are adults. I teach all styles, specializing in celtic, bluegrass, klezmer and classical.
Students begin with an introduction to music theory including scales, arpeggios, basic chord theory for fretted instruments. The first couple weeks I spend more time on posture and the instrument – how to hold it, hold the pick or bow, and how to get the best tone out of it.
Lessons are one hour a week. I teach from 9am until 7pm, with a 2 hour break between 12pm – 2pm M-F. So 9am-12pm, 2pm-7pm.
Elsewhere on this blog I’ve mentioned that I’m the President of Mandolin New England, a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to providing free concerts and masterclasses on mandolin-family instruments. Because of the COVID19, we are not performing anywhere in person, but we will be holding group classes for people that want to study classical music in an ensemble on Wednesday nights from 7pm on YouTube LIVE. If this is something you would like to sign up for, it’s FREE. Contact me and I will email you a link!
Online lessons are generally mornings: 9am-1pm, and afternoons 2-7pm
We use Slack (similar to Skype – but it’s Free), and Google Meet for group classes
The Following Group Classes Are Currently Open to New Students:
Mandolin Group – this is an advanced mandolin group that studies classical music from the Baroque era to the 20th century. Students should be able to sight read music and have some ensemble experience. The class meets Wednesday nights at 7pm
Celtic Group – this is a casual group of adults that are learning how to play and sing traditional Celtic dance music and song from the Celtic diaspora. Students should be able to read music and sing. No prior ensemble experience is necessary. The class meets Thursday nights at 7pm
Other Groups Can Be Started
In years’ past, we have offered various groups as requested by students. A minimum of 3 students is required for each class: Bluegrass group, Mandolin for Beginners, Fiddle group, Klezmer group
